Built For The Job

At JZMandrels, we specialize in manufacturing job-specific proving and testing mandrels for conduit and HDDP pipe used throughout the electrical transmission and distribution, underground utility, subsea, oil and gas, and industrial piping industries.

Every mandrel is custom built to meet the specifications of the individual project and cable manufacturer. Whether the job requires a standard or highly specialized size, we have the equipment and experience to manufacture a mandrel specifically for the demands of the project.

Solid Construction. Built for the Job.

Our mandrels are manufactured from solid-not laminated or glued material-

providing a heavier, stronger, and more durable product. Solid construction also helps reduce surface splitting, cracking and separation during use, particularly in demanding environments and saltwater applications.

Each mandrel is constructed with an ½ inch all-thread and 5000-lb. rated pulling eyes, then sealed with a two-coat primer and protective paint finish for added durability and protection.

Our In-House Manufacturing

JZMandrels operates two industrial lathes, giving us the capability to manufacture virtually any required mandrel diameter and length while maintaining competitive turnaround times.

Our in-house manufacturing allows us to respond quickly to project-specific requirements without sacrificing quality, strength or precision.

45 Years of Industry Experience

Behind every mandrel we manufacture is 45 years of hands-on experience in electrical utilities, gas and oil operations, underground construction, and industrial piping.

That experience allows us to offer more than manufacturing. For an additional cost, we will also provide project trouble shooting and consulting for the contractors and customers facing difficult or unusual proving applications. When a project presents a challenge, we can help identify practical solutions based on decades of real-world field experience.

At JZMandrels, we understand that our product is only one part of a much larger project. That’s why we focus on providing the right mandrel, built to the right specifications, with the knowledge and support to help keep the job moving.

Built to Spec. Built Solid. Built to Perform.

Meet the boss Man

Through Travis Hicks, we provide construction management, field consulting, troubleshooting, and project recovery support backed by 45 years of hands-on experience in major electrical transmission, civil, structural, industrial, oil and gas, and underground construction. Travis brings decades of field and construction management experience to complex projects where experience matters—particularly projects facing difficult site conditions, constructability challenges, schedule delays, coordination issues, or escalating costs. Electrical Transmission & Underground Infrastructure Extensive experience includes: Overhead and underground electrical transmission construction Large-scale underground and subsea transmission projects Onshore underground transmission projects Open-cut duct bank construction Large trench boxes, shoring and sheet piling systems Large-scale horizontal directional drilling (HDD) Micro tunneling and large-bore tunneling Tunnel boring operations for underground cable and piping installations Transmission vault construction Cable splicing, terminations and testing Dewatering and construction in adverse ground and site conditions Marine and seawall construction His project experience includes oversight and direction of a major 9,200-foot land-based directional drill involving a 48-inch cased bore and the pull-in of a 36-inch HDD bundle in the southern United States. Substation, Civil & Structural Construction Travis has extensive experience with both greenfield and complex substation construction, including: Greenfield substation build-outs Civil and structural construction Structural concrete CT structures Structural steel erection Power-station components and systems GIS systems for indoor substations Excavation support systems Shoring and sheet piling Large pits and below-grade structures Dewatering systems Marine and seawall work Industrial, Oil & Gas His field and management experience also extends into industrial, oil and gas construction, including: Plant construction and maintenance Cracker units Separators Scrubbers Tower work Process and industrial piping Structural construction Complex field coordination and construction management Project Troubleshooting & Recovery Some projects don’t need another report—they need someone who understands what is happening in the field and knows how to find a workable path forward. If your project is behind schedule, losing money, facing difficult construction conditions, or struggling with execution, Travis can provide an independent field perspective to help identify problems, evaluate constructability, and develop practical solutions. With 45 years spent managing construction in demanding environments, he understands the relationship between engineering, field execution, manpower, equipment, schedule, cost, safety, and production. Bring us the problem project. We’ll look at what’s happening in the field, identify where the project is losing ground, and work with your team to develop practical solutions designed to improve production, control costs, resolve construction challenges, and get the job moving in the right direction again.
